The world-class, multi-purpose Optus Stadium, located in Perth Australia, was designed to put “fans-first”. That commitment called for an innovative design that would ensure an exceptional atmosphere for every event.
Key design and fans-first features included future-proofed stadium technology and more than 70 Food and Beverage outlets that you can enjoy without missing a thing. The stadium includes the widest range of seating and hospitality options of any stadium in Australia.
Grifco, with more than 100 years of manufacturing in Australia, in conjunction with WA based Anvil Doors were chosen to provide the Commercial Door Operators and Safety Systems Solutions for all of the vehicular access doors, equipment storage and workshop doors, Food & Beverage servery doors as well as ticket counter shutters to support the fans first vision.
The Requirement
In a stadium where there is so much happening every day of the week, not just on game day, the client called for a safe, compliant, reliable and locally backed automation solution that could support all areas of the facility. Due to this, Grifco was chosen as the door automation supplier of choice for a number of reasons. Grifco is part of the Chamberlain Group, the world’s largest manufacturer of door operators and as such are a global leader in access control and automation solutions. Our products are manufactured in Australia and are designed and engineered to meet the needs of the Australian industry. All products are fully compliant meeting the requirements of AS/NZS 60335.2.103. Grifco had the range of product solutions to best meet and cover all the specific stadium applications. Coupled with having a national distribution network, best in class customer support and a strong history of working closely with our supply partners, Grifco was the only choice.
The Solution
Grifco, E-Drive Roller Shutter Operators were chosen for all vehicular access points and were installed with Grifco’s unique GLCPS, Light Curtain Protector System to ensure the protection of people and property when the doors are operating. The Light Curtain System detects an obstruction under the moving part of the door preventing the door from closing and potential injury or damage.
All of these Operators are integrated into the Building Management System (BMS) where both the facilities and security teams can monitor the state of each access point throughout the stadium.
The second challenge was to provide Fire Door System Automation solutions to all of the inner stadium individual workshop and storage areas, as well as the majority of the Food and Beverage Fire and Security Shutters. Grifco’s purpose designed Auto Descent Fire Door Operators were chosen as the best solution for these applications. In addition, the public ticket counter shutters are also equipped with Grifco’s Light Industrial Roller Door Operators, which were chosen for their compact design, quiet DC motors and ease of integration.
The Outcome
Since opening in January 2018, Optus Stadium has undergone regular safety inspections and preventative maintenance supported locally by Anvil Doors. The facilities management team have confirmed their satisfaction with the performance of the Grifco Operators within the third largest international sporting venue in Australia. Downtime is not an option in such a busy and dynamic environment.
